Dungeon Keeper 3: War for the Overworld[1] is a cancelled PC strategy game by Bullfrog Productions for Microsoft Windows. Dungeon Keeper 3 was set to be the next installment in the Dungeon Keeper franchise. Players were charged with managing evil creatures in an underground dungeon and protecting it against the stereotypical righteous and goodly adventurers that conventionally appear in role-playing video games. The series won praise from reviewers for its innovative design and devilish humor. The sequel to Dungeon Keeper, and Dungeon Keeper 2, it was set to lead the player to do battle in the surface realm of the goodly heroes. The Dungeon Keeper titles were real-time strategy games that put players in the role of a dungeon overseer charged with managing an underground realm and protecting it against the goodly adventurers that conventionally appear in roleplaying games. Dungeons 2, then, was a totally different experience, drawing more on Dungeon Keeper, but with nods to other classic RTS games like Warcraft 3. Instead of creating dungeons to challenge heroes, players were tasked with conquering the underworld and overworld through a mix of dungeon management and RTS battles. It resonated with players a lot more than its predecessor, sparking another sequel, the recently launched Dungeons 3.

In Dungeons, our protagonist falls victim to a devious plot hatched by his vile, nasty and thoroughly vicious ex-girlfriend and finds himself at the bottom of the underworld hierarchy and the top of the dungeon pile which in this world is about as bad as it can get. Our Lord must have his revenge, and make his way back down the dungeon levels to his rightful place -- but first he must deal with his new bosses, the three despicable Dungeon Lords who stand in his way.
Sprawling rival dungeons contesting for space, creature populations and gold; fending off dynamic, icky Hero forces that grow in potency as you do; a generous spread of room types and spells... There's a lot of potential, even if the signs are superficially troubling. God knows I'm as concerned as anyone, but it's sad that so many folk seem to be entirely writing this off before they even consider what it could be.

chris hecker started writing dungeon keeper 3 in november 1997, with the intention of making a sequel with a much larger scope. the engine was new, and the team couldn't find an external team to do a lot of the work. hecker had only written the strategy, so he was hired to take over writing the game. he wanted to take things further, but ended up winding up writing almost the same thing that was in the released version of the game. the game's story was also written by hecker, who had no experience in w
